There usually is a cover letter that you send to your employers right before sending in your resume. This is usually used to say what you need to say right before the big interview. It is to boost your morale and to show them that you are a better option than the other people who are trying to get the job. Sending in a cover letter can allow you to be personal with your receiver and give them a visualization that hiring you is and will be a smart decision.

A cover letter allows your employers to know how the skills you acquire fit within the role you’re getting yourself into. It gives them a clarification on whether you are good and functional if you are working with a team. You would explain these things in the letter for them to realize that the position should truly be yours as they hire you.

Things to Note When You’re Sending The Letter

You would send it via email or through the mail and as long as you know the personal information of your receiver, it would be fine. It would be greatly recommended though that you would send the letter via email as it wouldn’t become much of a hassle for both parties. As stated before, you should know who you’re sending the email. If you have no idea who you are sending the letter to, the next best possible thing to write would be “To whom it may concern”.

What Your Cover Letter Should Contain

Writing up a cover letter is just the same as writing a classic formal letter but it looks just like your resume. It should have the name of the receiver, the body of the letter, your salutations, and especially the address to who you’re sending it. Below, there will be a short explanation of each of these features you should have in your letter.

  • Header – It should contain your personal information. These are your full name, the title of the job, home address, your phone number, and email
  • Salutations – Here is where you will mention the name of your receiver. It could either be their name or if you have no who they are, you could use “Dear Hiring Manager”.
  • Introduction – This part of the letter means as it says. Here is where you should introduce yourself and explain what the purpose of the letter is. This is in order for the employer to know right away what your intentions are and for you to get straight to the point.
  • Body paragraph – This is where you should put in the letter your intentions and why you find interest in applying for the role you’re going for. You should describe yourself as a person in this part of the letter and explain why your descriptions and capabilities fit the requirements to get the job.
  • Closing paragraph – You should end your paragraph with a great goodbye. You could use “Sincerely,” or “Best regards” and then with your name right next to it.
  • Letter ending and your signature – It’s pretty self-explanatory, this is where you end your letter and put your signature to signify you were the one who made this letter.


Writing up a cover letter for your dream job could be of great help as it could greatly increase your chances of getting into it. You shouldn’t freak out or panic whenever you are about to write a cover letter for your resume. Keep note that there are a minority of people who don’t require you to bring a cover letter, don’t let this get to your mind though.
