Naruto Uzumaki has emerged as the undefeated ninja of the show, and it comes as no surprise as he is the show’s protagonist. His childhood dream was to become the Hokage, or leader of his village. With great determination and gaining access to incredible power, Naruto eventually became the Seventh Hokage of his village. His powers include possession of the Nine-Tailed Fox which gives him chakra and life force energy, the Six Paths Sage Mode which equips him with techniques to effectively defeat his opponent in battle, and being a Jinchuriki of the nine tails. So which characters are capable of taking down a ninja as strong as Naruto? Here is a list of characters capable of defeating Naruto:
- Sasuke Uchiha
Sasuke Uchiha comes closest to Naruto in terms of power and abilities. He not only possesses the Rinne Sharingan or Rinnegan but also has Six Paths Powers. The Rinnegan is considered the best one out of the Three Great Dojutsu, making it stronger than the Sharingan. With the Rinnegan in his possession, combined with the Six Paths Powers, Sasuke is more than capable of killing Naruto. The manga series explores the relationship between Naruto and Sasuke in-depth as they keep switching between being enemies and becoming allies to defeat a common enemy. Hence, the dynamics of their relationship can be quite complex and confusing to understand. Later in the sequel of the series, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Sasuke is said to be the stronger character of the two. Sasuke is considered more powerful because Naruto has become the Seventh Hokage and remains limited to the duties of that position. In contrast, Sasuke remains active as a ninja or shinobi.
- Hagoromo Otsutsuki
Renowned as the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki was the son of Kaguya Otsutski, the main antagonist of Naruto. Thus, he naturally inherited immense powers from his mother. He became a Jinchuriki of the Ten-tails and was known as the Sage of the Six Paths – someone who had mastered Six Path techniques – making him more than capable of killing Naruto Uzumaki.
- Kawaki
Kawaki is a primary character in the sequel of the Naruto series, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. He was raised by Jigen, the leader of the Kara organization, and was meant to become a vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki. Isshiki Otsutsuki wanted to possess Kawaki’s body and make it his own. Hence, Kawaki faced severe and extensive training, making him very strong and capable of defeating Naruto. Kawaki’s abilities are highlighted in the prologue of the Boruto series when the Hidden Leaf Village or Konoha is in ruins, suggesting Naruto might have been killed by Kawaki.

- Kaguya Otsutsuki
Kaguya Otsutsuki is the main antagonist of the Naruto series. Her immense powers come from consuming the fruit of the God Tree, making her the first character to possess chakra prowess and gain the title of “Mother of Chakra.” In addition to mastering chakra, she also possessed the Ten-Tails giving her unmatched power. However, it led to her being sealed by her children. The important thing to note is that it took the efforts of both her children, Hamura Otsutsuki and Hagoromo Otsutsuki, to seal her away. This suggests that one character is never enough to match her powers. Later in the series, when the seal is broken, she possesses a mastery of chakra, the Ten-Tails, Kekkei Genkai, and the Rinne Sharingan. All these combined made her an extremely powerful character, and it took the capabilities of Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Kakashi Hatake, and Sakura Haruno to defeat her. Thus, she is strong enough to defeat or even kill Naruto in a one-on-one battle.
- Jigen
Jigen is a monk and the leader of the Kara organization. He is a vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki as the latter wants a new body for himself. Eventually, Isshiki takes over Jigens body completely, which shows how powerful Jigen must be as he meets Isshiki’s requirements for a strong body. Moreover, he single-handedly fought against Naruto and Sasuke and successfully defeated them due to his incredible chakra abilities.
