The post-apocalyptic genre is on the rise. In video games, as in movies and TV shows, the end of the world as we know it is an event that seems to inspire developers.
Literature, cinema, series, video games,… Post-apocalyptic is a hit and has always been a hit. It is a genre that adapts to all formats and that interests. A large number of successful works take place in this universe. It is not for nothing that the next Far Cry could take place in a post-apocalyptic universe. Recently, we were also treated to Fallout 76. The game is probably the worst of the saga but still allows a co-op experience in a post-apocalyptic world.

10. Days Gone
This Playstation exclusive released in 2019 was clearly not a hit when it was released. The game was riddled with bugs and despite a promise of a rich universe with a maximum of zombies, it clearly disappointed.
However, it has been patched since its release and it remains today a good post-apocalyptic game.
9. Death Stranding
Hideo Kojima’s latest game immerses us in a remarkable post-apocalyptic universe unlike any other. With an excellent cast, Death Stranding offers us an incredible story.
Its gameplay can sometimes be a bit redundant or even boring but it’s a game to play if you are a fan of post-apocalyptic and Kojima’s work.
8. Frostpunk
A perfect example of a management game in a post-apocalyptic universe. The goal here is to survive by keeping your city in good shape. The game will give you a hard time with complicated choices and many events.
7. Dying Light
The spiritual sequel to Dead Island is a little gem. You simply land in a city infested by zombies.
It is possible to play the game in 2 player co-op. Parkour, infiltration, fighting against zombies… We have everything in this Dying Light. It’s clearly not a perfect game but it deserves to be done.
6. Fallout 3
If you’ve never played Fallout 3, you need to get your hands on it. It’s 10 years old now, and it’s true that it has aged. But for the Fallout universe alone, you have to give it a shot.
You are a survivor living in a shelter after a nuclear war. Eventually you’ll emerge from that shelter to discover the Capital Wasteland.
The world is vast, the universe is rich and you will have quests galore. In addition to a pretty cool main story, you won’t believe how many things you’ll have to do for hours.
5. Horizon Zero Dawn
The game is technically amazing. It was originally released to show the full power of the PS4 Pro. The graphics and landscapes are therefore very good.
But it doesn’t stop there since the game offers us a vast post-apocalyptic universe that changes from the ordinary. A nice experience to discover if you haven’t played the game yet.
4. Telltale The Walking Dead
If you’re not familiar with Telltale Studio’s games, you’d do well to dive in with their game The Walking Dead. It’s an incredible narrative adventure based on the comics that will take you far and wide.
With very well written characters and an interesting choice system, this game is definitely worth playing even in 2020. The cartoonish art direction actually makes it not age that much.

3. Metro 2033 Redux
The post-apocalyptic FPS at its best. The Metro franchise is a little gem that is still too little known. It has 3 opuses of which the last Metro Exodus was released in 2018.
The concept is simple. After a nuclear war, the survivors have taken refuge in the Moscow Metro and now live there. You will face several factions, mutants and especially the threat of radiation.
The game offers a real end-of-the-world atmosphere as one rarely sees. Even though it has aged, a remaster has been released and you can easily play it even in 2020.
2. The Last Of Us
Long considered one of the best games of all time, The Last Of Us draws its strength from its narrative. It is the trademark of the studio Naughty Dog.
The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world hit by a zombie invasion. A great classic, but Naughty Dog managed to turn it into something unique thanks to its characters and its scenario.
1. Fallout New Vegas
Fallout New Vegas follows in the footsteps of Fallout 3 but will improve the gameplay. In addition, it’s in and around Las Vegas that the adventure will take place. A post-apocalyptic open world like few others and which marked a whole generation of players.
