It is often easier to manage a team in-person than virtually. People can underestimate the effectiveness of having managers and employees in the same room or building. However, off-site teams have demonstrated their ability to maintain productivity off-site. Therefore, managers and businesses are wise to permit remote work options for qualified and proven employees. Still, while off-site teams can work well, they still require effective management, which goes beyond a shared office background with logo. Managers must learn new skills and develop traditional skills for the new environment.

1. Have Clear Team Goals

When operating from a Zoom virtual office, a team must be on the same page even when not in direct communication with each other. The best way to ensure your team is on the same page is to provide clear objectives for each member. Every team member has a unique set of skills to offer. Your job as a manager is to discover what each member is best at and design their jobs accordingly. You need to divide a project up, putting the right members in charge of the most suitable parts.

2. Meet Often

Many managers stick to monthly meetings, but that is not enough when you do not have your team in front of you every day. Instead, you should have a minimum of weekly meetings. Virtual environments require more from management and team members. As a manager, you need to ensure that each team member understands their role in the team and the project. You will want to meet with each person to discuss your expectations and answer any questions the team member might have.
